Guide to Grosmont Station

Grosmont is a small village in the Esk valley - part of the North York Moors National Park, six miles from the fishing port of Whitby.

The village began life mining the rich iron ore deposits from the surrounding hills, with blast furnaces working day and night. Today, there is very little evidence of Grosmont's industrial past. The blast furnaces have gone cold and disappeared beneath the ground, abundant wildlife having reclaimed the land as its own. All that remains today is a beautiful village bordered by rolling hills and farmland, the sounds of steam engines the only reminder of Grosmont's history.
